The 2012 Ontario
Winter Games, hosted by the Town of Collingwood, will take place from
March 8th to March 11th, 2012 across the Georgian Bay area.
Congratulations to FKCI's
Darren Miller, Zad Mangat, Riley Hurst and Carter Park who qualified to
compete and represent Fitness Kickboxing Canada, Orangeville location,
in the 2012 Ontario Winter Games!
The Games are a highly recognized,
multi-sport competition that showcases some of Ontario's best amateur
athletes. Athletes from the Games could progress to National Championships,
Canada Games, Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games or World
Championships!
In addition to strengthening
sport development in Ontario, the Games also promote the benefits of sport
and provide the opportunity for spectators to learn more about Ontario's
best athletes.
Amateur Kickboxing is an exciting
combat sport which combines boxing with kicking skills similar to those
in the martial arts. In some kickboxing ring disciplines, the use of knee
attacks and throws similar to Judo are also permitted.
The three disciplines of amateur
kickboxing are: Full Contact rules - with all boxing and kicking occurring
above the waist, Low Kick rules - with all boxing techniques and kicking
occurring above the waist and also to the upper leg, Thai boxing - boxing
techniques, with kicking to the lower and upper legs, as well as knees
being allowed to the legs and body. You will be seeing all three kickboxing
disciplines in the Ontario Games.
Amateur kickboxing has grown
exponentially in Canada with Ontario being a strong province for our sport.
A number of the Ontario athletes at the 2010 Ontario Games are national
caliber athletes.
